Why Outside Feels Different
There’s something about an outdoor ceremony that a four-walled room can’t quite match. The light shifts. The weather has opinions. Guests lean in a little closer because the setting is working alongside them. As a celebrant who walks her dog twice a day in every kind of British weather, outside is firmly my happy place.
Here are a handful of spots across the South West where I love working, for weddings, vow renewals, celebrations of life, and woodland farewells alike.
The Somerset Coast
The stretch from Weston-super-Mare down to Minehead offers proper sea air, big skies, and quiet coves for smaller gatherings. For anyone imagining a beach ceremony or a cliff-top farewell, there’s real drama here without needing to travel far.
Sand Bay and Sand Point
Just north of Weston, these quieter spots are perfect for intimate ceremonies. Easy access, huge skies, and the gentle sound of water as your soundtrack.
North Somerset and Bristol
Tyntesfield and the National Trust Estates
The grounds around Tyntesfield and similar National Trust gardens make a stunning backdrop for both weddings and memorial services. Mature trees, formal gardens, and plenty of sheltered spots for when the British weather turns.
Leigh Woods
For woodland ceremonies near Bristol, Leigh Woods offers proper old-growth cover and quiet paths. A beautiful option for woodland burials or a nature-led farewell.
Devon, Cornwall and the South Coast
I travel happily across Devon and Cornwall. The beaches down there are hard to match. Bantham, Watergate Bay, Porthcurno. All have held beautiful ceremonies for couples who wanted the wildness of the Atlantic as part of their day.
Woodland Burial Grounds
For families planning a woodland or natural burial, Somerset has some of the most peaceful burial grounds in the country. Sites like Higher Ground and Westerleigh Group’s natural options offer a gentler alternative to traditional cemeteries, with space for trees rather than headstones.
A Quick Word on Weather
Every outdoor ceremony needs a plan B. A covered alternative. A tent. A barn down the lane. I always walk through contingency plans with my couples and families so that a downpour on the day doesn’t derail anything. In my experience, British weather cooperates far more often than people expect.
Your Spot, Whatever It Is
If you have a place in mind I haven’t mentioned, tell me about it. Some of my favourite ceremonies have happened in places I’d never been before. A family garden. A favourite walk. A field where they first met.
Two ceremonies. One careful approach.
From the first joyful "yes" to the gentlest goodbye, I write and lead ceremonies that hold the people they're for. Choose a path below to explore what's included, or let's talk through what feels right for you.
A wedding that sounds completely like you.
Bespoke package
Personal, flexible ceremonies written around your story. Whether it's a barefoot beach wedding, a quiet garden gathering, or something much more unusual, I'll help you create something that sounds and feels unmistakably yours.
A farewell that truly honours a life.
Compassionate package
When someone you love has died, the last thing you need is a rushed, impersonal service. I write and lead farewells that honour the person at the heart of the day. Funerals, celebrations of life, memorials, and woodland burial services.
